Markethill Mart: In calf cows and heifers to £1560

An entry of 750 cattle at Markethill on Saturday 27th February sold in another outstanding trade with store beef heifers and weanlings in particularly strong demand.

Heifers: The 200 heifers sold in exceptionally strong trade with beef heifers selling to £282 per 100 kilos for 650k Belgian Blue at £1845 for a Banbridge farmer followed by £253 per 100 kilos for 640k Charolais at £1625 from a Downpatrick farmer.

The same owner received £244 per 100 kilos for 696k Charolais at £1695.

All good quality beef heifers from £210 to £238 per 100 kilos.

Forward feeding heifers sold to £270 per 100 kilos for 546k Limousin at £1475 from a Tandragee farmer followed by £238 per 100 kilos for 616k Charolais at £1465 from a Downpatrick producer.

Main demand from £200 to £235 per 100 kilos. In total 30 heifers sold in excess of £1400 each with a further 20 selling from £1300 to £1400 each.
