An entry of 700 cattle at Markethill on Saturday 21st September maintained an excellent demand for all rings.

Heifers

210 heifers included several pens of top quality forward heifers sold to a top of £314 for 522k at £1640 paid to a Katesbridge farmer.

A Banbridge producer received £305 for 502k at £1530 and a Newry farmer received £302 for 560k at £1560.

An entry of 1870 sheep at Markethill on Monday 23rd September sold in an improved trade for fat lambs and stores.

Cull ewe prices were also firmer on the week.

Heavy lambs sold to a top of £154 each being paid for 28 lambs at 28.3k, 544p/k from a Benburb producer, followed by 533p/k for 24.4k at £130 from a Richhill farmer.

Main demand for good quality heavy lambs from 510 – 532p/k with several pens selling for £147.50 each.

The average price for all the heavy lambs sold was 26k at £137.50 per head.

Good quality midweight lambs sold to 600p/k for 22k at £132 from a Tassagh producer, followed by 577p/k for 22.2k at £128 for a Bessbrook farmer and a Ballynahinch farmer received 574p/k for 20.2k at £116.

All good quality midweights from 540-567p/k.

Good quality store lambs sold steadily from 560-649p/k for 16.1k at £104.50 from a Dungannon farmer, followed by 617p/k for 14.1k at £87 from a Warrenpoint producer.

A Kilkeel farmer received 617p/k for 17.1k at £105.50.

230 cull ewes sold to a top of £258.

Main demand for fleshed ewes from £130-£186.

Plainer ewes from £70-£110.

In the breeding ring rams sold to a top of £520 with others at £390, £380 and £360.

Ewe hoggets sold to £245.

Main demand from £180 - £225.
