Marts: Exceptionally strong trade for cattle at Markethill Mart this week

An entry of 70 cull cows at Markethill on Tuesday 11th June continued to sell in an exceptionally strong trade.

Good quality beef bred cows sold up to £265 for 690k Charolais at £1840 for an Armagh producer.

A Newtownhamilton producer received a top price of £2130 for 870k at £245 and an Armagh farmer received £236 for 678k at £1600.

All good quality cows from £200 to £229 per 100 kilos.

Fleshed Friesian cows sold to a top of £169 for 720k at £1230 from a Hillsborough producer followed by £162 for 660k at £1080 from a Tandragee farmer.

A Hillsborough farmer also received £162 for 700k at £1140.

Main demand from £140 to £157.

Second quality Friesians from £125 to £140 and the poorest types from £105 to £120 per 100 kilos.

160 calves sold in a very firm trade for all classes with good quality bull calves under eight weeks selling to a top of £505 for a four week old Charolais from a Glenanne producer followed by £460 for Belgian Blue from a Whitecross producer.

Main trade for good quality bulls from £280 to £400 and second quality from £180 to £260 each.

Heifer calves sold up to £500 for six week old Limousin from a Newry farmer followed by £430 for an Aberdeen Angus and £420 for an Aberdeen Angus.

All good quality heifers from £250 to £360 each and plainer types from £150 to £240 each.
