An entry of 1950 sheep in Markethill on Monday 19th August maintained a reasonably steady trade.

Good quality heavy lambs sold steadily from 540 – 563p/k for 24k at £135 from a Banbridge producer, followed by 557p/k for 24.4k at £136 from a Richhill farmer and for 24.6k at £137 from a Moira producer.

Good quality midweights sold from 540-587p/k for 22.5k at £132 from a Newtownhamilton farmer, followed by 586p/k for 21k at £123 from a Banbridge producer.

A Whitecross farmer received 578p for 22.4k at £129.

Good quality light stores sold from 600-680p/k for 12.5k at £85 from a Dromore farmer, followed by 662p for 13.9k at £92 from a Castlewellan producer.

Stronger lots to 604p for 17.4k at £105 from a Newry farmer.

The same owner received 598p for 17.8k at £106.50.

Main demand for stronger stores from 550-586p/k.

260 cull ewes sold to a top of £226 with others at £218 and £194.

Main demand for well fleshed ewes from £130 to £182. Plainer ewes from £70 to £110 each.

Breeding rams sold to a top of £730 with others at £540, £480 and £460.

Ewe hoggets sold to a top of £260 with several top quality pens from £200 to £250 each.
