Marts: Very firm trade for cattle at Markethill, calved heifers selling to £2300

An entry of 55 dairy stock at Markethill on Tuesday 18th June sold in a very firm demand with calved heifers selling to a top of £2300 for a Rathfriland farmer.

The same owner sold two more calved heifers at £1960 and £1800 each.

The same owner received £2240 and £2200 for calved cows.

A Dromore farmer sold two calved heifers at £1960 and £1720.

A Rathfriland farmer sold an entry of in calf heifers which sold to a top of £2060, £2040, £2000 and £1940.

Several more sold from £1500 to £1880 each.

Maiden heifers sold up to £1050 and £1020 for a Castlewellan farmer and a Rathfriland producer received £1980, £1880 and £1760 for maiden heifers.

A Tandragee farmer sold reared heifer calves at £410 and £370 each.

Cull cows

105 cull cows maintained a very strong trade with beef bred cows to £233 for 800k at £1880 from a Newry farmer.

The same owner received £226 for 810k at £1830 and 690k at £1570 each.

A Lisburn farmer received £225 for 720k at £1620.

Main demand for beef bred cows from £190 to £220 per 100 kilos.

Friesian cows sold up to £183 for 840k at £1540 for a Loughgilly farmer followed by £171 for 610k at £1040 from a Banbridge farmer.

A Lurgan farmer received £169 for 810k at £1380.

Main demand from £150 to £163 per 100 kilos.

Second quality Friesians from £130 to £145 and the plainest types from £110 to £125.

Good quality heifer calves sold to a top of £490 for a Charolais followed by £470 for a Belgian Blue and £450 for an Aberdeen Angus.

All good quality heifer calves from £250 to £380 each.

Plainer types from £160 to £220.

Bull calves sold to £455 for an Aberdeen Angus followed by £425 for a Belgian Blue, £400 for a Belgian Blue and £420 for an Aberdeen Angus.

All good quality bulls from £260 to £370 and plainer types from £170 to £230.
