McGlone committed to all island Animal Cruelty Register
The Mid Ulster MLA said: “I spoke at the Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee, urging progress on an animal cruelty register, which the SDLP have been raising consistently at the Assembly and local councils. At my request, the Committee agreed to seek further information and I look forward to receiving that soon.
“In spite of legislation to punish offenders, there is no central register of those convicted of animal cruelty offences. Having one would help prevent further animals being placed in the care of convicted animal abusers.

“Those responsible for heinous crimes against helpless animals should face the full force of the law. However, I am concerned that with no central register, we are left in a situation where animals are inadvertently rehomed or sold to previously banned or convicted individuals, increasing the risk of serial offending. “
