Annual Christmas

Show 2014

The results of the Christmas show are as follows:

The Fancy dress competition has never been so difficult with the gorgeous little Mrs Clause and Wonderful Elsa from Frozen, the committee simply could not decide which young lady had the better fancy dress and so ended up with a joint victory.

In the X-Pole Class there were two double clears: Grainne Rooney on Chelsea and Chloe Flynn on Guiness. Caitlin Trainor on Star unfortunately received four faults and Ruth McCann on Dudley received eight. Sarah-Jayne Trainor on Star had a lovely second round after an unfortunate elimination in the first round.

The Novice Class saw tough competition with Kerry Cunningham on Molly taking first place in the Senior class and Tierna Harper taking first on Jessie in the Junior’s. Second was Grainne Rooney on Chelsea and third place went to Lauren McGrath on Duke in the Junior section.

The Intermediate class also proved challenging for competitors but Jason Hanna on Trigger jumped their hearts out to take first place in the Senior section. In the Junior Intermediate class Charley Hanna on Hazey were on top form taking first place with Tierna Harper on Jessie close behind them in second place and Ruth Baird on Paris taking third position.

The Open class saw father and daughter putting pressure on each other for a space on the mantel piece with Charley Hanna on Hazey winning the Junior Open on Hazey and father Jason Hanna on Trigger winning the Senior Open class.

Jumping completed competitors made way for Annual Christmas pony games. This is always the highlight of the show with the audience jumping off their seats in excitement.

After both teams had tackled passing the whip, stacking the buckets, pinning the tail on the donkey, the sack race and the hoola hoops whilst weaving their way up and down the arena.

Winners were the Santa’s involving Tierna Harper on Jessie, Grainne Rooney on Chelsea and Lauren McGrath on Duke. Runners up were the Snowmen comprising of Caitlin Trainor and Sarah-Jayne Trainor on Star, Charley Hanna on Hazey and Maura on Drummer.

New Year’s Hack

and Drive 2015

New Year’s Hack and Drive saw the members of Kilkeel and District Riding club and local horse enthusiasts venturing just short of six miles around the Annalong and Mourne area.

The club had Declan Haughian, Bobby Doran and John Grinnell driving their horses around the countryside along with Jason Hanna, Charley Hanna, Emma Bissenden and Melissa McBurney hacking the route.

Before leaving McBurney’s yard all riders and drivers received a cup of mulled wine, tea or coffee before braving the cold weather.

When everyone arrived back at the yard feeling fresh after a beautiful and scenic hack and drive they all consumed homemade vegetable soup, potato and leek soup, tray bakes, apple tart and hot drinks kindly supplied by Mrs Lily McKnight and Mrs Vivienne McBurney.
