Portmore Equestrian Centre was the venue for the final of the Half Bred Horse Breeders Society Three Year Old Loose Jumping Championship.
A large crowd turned out to view an impressive and talented group of three year old horses.
The Society is grateful to Richard Bourns who spared the time in his very busy schedule to judge this event. When being interviewed he stated that he was impressed by the overall standard and thought it likely that many of these horses would go on to compete at the highest level.
It was interesting to note that many of the same bloodlines repeated throughout the competition including Peter Pan in the top ten being the sire of the second and sixth placed horses and the Cruising bloodline appearing in four of the winning entries.
Congratulations to the breeders and owners of the 28 horses who made it through from the many horses who competed in the qualifying rounds to go through to the final. This competition was set up to provide a shop window for three year olds and their breeders. Past experience has shown that many of the horses who did not make the final ten went on to compete at the highest level.
The winner was an outstanding colt by Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve owned by Kerry Teggart. He gave an impressive performance and his future career will be watched with interest.

The society would like to thank the venues, Kernans Equestrian Centre, Connell Hill Equestrian Centre and Portmore Equestrian Centre who hosted the final. Thanks also to Raymond Bready for his well researched commentary and also to John Gibson of Sporting Images NI for his excellent photographs.
Thanks to everyone who made the time to support this event, and also the many volunteers who helped on the night, without which it would not be possible. As always it was a great pleasure to spend the evening with so many quality young horses.
Good luck to them all and everyone will be keeping an eye on their future achievements.
