Maeve and Millie are winners

STRULE Valley Riding Club in Omagh, Co Tyrone held a combined training competition at the weekend at the RDA, Arvalee, Omagh.

Riders and their horses travelled from Strabane, Tempo, Enniskillen, Trillick and the outskirts of Omagh to compete in the dressage only classes and also the combined training classes.

The club would like to thank judge for the day Ivor Harper and scribe Emma King. Thanks also to Noel Regan for setting up the dressage arena, Joan Blair and Jane Huey for adding up the scores, Karen and Laura Glendinning for call up, Pearl Donnell for ensuring everyone had a cup of tea/refreshments and also looking after entries. Thanks to Raymond Caldwell for building the showjumping course and to everyone else who helped build and clear the arena afterwards. Thanks to Ann and Noel Regan for sponsoring the trophies for the winners of each class.


Class 1 – Intro B 2009 dressage only: 1st – Harvey and Heather Black; 2nd – Calypso and Nicola Mulligan

Class 2 – Prelim 13 2006 dressage only: 1st – Tattysallagh Max and Phillippa McKee; 2nd – Barnstormer and Ann Regan; 3rd – Rosie and Mandy McQuade; 4th – Mouse and Barbara Lunny

Class 3 – Prelim 12 2005 with one round jumping: 1st – Millie and Maeve Lunny; 2nd – Barnstormer and Ann Regan; 3rd – Ruby and Linda McKinney; 4th – George and Alison Donnell; 5th – Timmy and Fergal McKinney; 6th – Rosie and Mandy McQuade

Class 4 – Novice 24 2010 with one round jumping: 1st – Millie and Maeve Lunny; 2nd – Barnstormer and Ann Regan; 3rd – George and Alison Donnell

Next for the club is the annual Christmas Show which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 12th December, starting at 7pm in Ecclesville, Fintona.

The night commences with a 60cm class, followed by 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and one metre. The metre class will include a jump off which will be timed; just to add a little bit of excitement for those wishing to practice their jump off techniques.

Everyone is welcome to come along and there will be a prize for the best Christmas fancy dress in each class.

A dressage competition has been planned for Sunday 20th January again at the RDA, Arvalee, Omagh. More details later. An Arena Eventing Competition has been planned for February. Date to be confirmed but will take place at Ecclesville, Fintona and will be open to everyone. This will include eight showjumps followed by eight cross country/working hunter type fences to include the Strule Valley cottage, brush fence and brush/roller fence.

Members have one final lesson on their autumn schedule; a showjumping lesson with Nessa Toher at Ecclesville. Then the winter schedule includes a showjumping lesson, and the Christmas night out with be a meal in Omagh Indian Nights.

To start of the new year, on Wednesday 16th January there will be a demo/talk at the RDA, Omagh by Anne Torrens – Muscle Care for Horses and also Roger Gordon, Master Saddler will be attending to give people the opportunity to have their saddles checked for correct fit on their horses.

Phillippa McKee will take members for two weeks of flatwork lessons at the end of January and in February a new instructor to the club William Anderson will take members and their horses for four weeks of poles/gridwork and showjumping training at Ecclesville.
