There was a great buzz in the air as the second leg of the TRI Inter Schools competition got underway at the Meadows Equestrian Centre recently with special guest Cian O’Connor arriving early to give out prizes to the primary school children.

The 50cm primary competition proved popular with lots of young upcoming riders, with the class winner Katelyn Irvine coming within 0.2 secs of the optimum time of 44 seconds. Winner of the 70cm class was Tyler Houston with a super time. The mixed team of the ‘Mighty Midgets’ lead the way in the primary teams competition from early on after recording some very fast clear rounds.

Ballymena Academy continued their winning streak in the novice teams section with yet another convincing win over 19 other teams, to put them in a strong position, but with another three legs still remaining there’s lots to play for!

In the Open teams class it was Newbridge Integrated who took home the winning rosettes with the fastest time and four faults.

Other winners on the day included Megan Nelson on Flash who beat off over 70 other riders to claim top spot, closely followed by siblings Ryan Boville who took second place and sister Victoria taking third place.

Hannah Thompson secured first place in the open individual class and Annie Cadam and Keavy Molloy took second and third place. Jade Harpur did well claiming first place in the premier individual competition.

In addition to the superb show jumping that was happening in both arenas, riders were then also able to have their picture taken with Irish International and 2012 Olympic medallist Cian O’Connor.

As brand ambassador, Cian was in attendance at the Meadows to launch ‘Horse Pilot’ products, which are now stocked at the onsite TRI Equestrian store.

The third leg of the inter Schools competition will take place on Saturday 14th November 2015. Entries will close on Wednesday, November 11. For more information please contact Aaron McCusker on 07711 815 267 or email aaron@themec.co.uk
