January days are generally short and miserable, but the dressage day at Laurel View was a long and enjoyable highlight of the month.

Class one competitors rode BD Intro A for their judge Amy Neill, many for their first time in a competitive dressage arena.

A golden performance from Wendy Forsythe earned first place for Tifftarney PJ Gold and herself, while Chloe Agnew and Dusty were delighted to come second.

Bronagh Stevenson and Dukey topped class two after Emma Andrew’s scores were all added up. The blue rosette for Prelim 7 was earned by Nelliephant and Barbara Hanna.

A very strong class three was judged by Martina McKinley. Allan Dewhurst and Podge rode the Prelim 12 test best on the day, while Louise Spence and Maverick came a very commendable second.

Prelim 18 was the first test Ivor Harper had the job of judging. Arlene Jackson and Primrose earned the red ribbon, while it was blue for Podge and Allan Dewhurst in this class.

Class five competitors rode Novice 24 in front of Angelene Nicholson. Helen Faulkner and Derryvane Danny came out on top of the competition just ahead of Linda McIlwaine and Beechmount Baxter.

Ivor Harper was back seated in the judge’s position for the open class. It was Linda McIlwaine and Beechmount Baxters that scored the top marks for their Novice test. Second in the open was awarded to Louise McFarlane and Izzy also for their performance of the Novice test.

All in all a fabulous day of dressage made worthwhile by the competitors who came from all over to take part. Organisers wish to thank them and everyone who made it all happen, judges, scribes, staff, not forgetting birthday girl Norma on call up for the duration.
