1020 sheep at Markethill sell to an improved trade

An entry of 1020 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 1st June sold in an improved trade for both spring lambs and cull sheep.

Light lambs sold to 408p per kilo for 25 lambs weighing 21.3 kilos @ £87 each for a Newtownhamilton farmer. All good quality pens sold from 380p to 400p per kilo.

Heavy lambs sold to £95 each with several pens from £87 to £92 each. Top rate of 378p per kilo was paid for 25 kilos @ £94.50 each. All good quality pens sold from 340p to 367p per kilo.

Cull ewes sold to £122 each. All heavy ewes sold from £80 to £96 each. Plainer ewes sold from £50 to £70 each.

A full yard of ewes and lambs sold in a strong trade. Doubles sold to £190 each. Singles sold to £180 each.
