The stylish January 2015 born heifer Dinmore Lanelle sold for 16,000gns to lead the second major on-farm production sale from the Dinmore Herd of Paul Dawes, Dinmore Manor Estate held on Saturday 2nd July 2016.
Dinmore Lanelle, an embryo calf, is by the stock sire Diamant, who was the 2014 Interbreed Champion at the Royal Welsh Show, and is out of the prolific Dinmore Elle who herself was breed champion at the 2010 Royal Welsh.
Purchasing Dinmore Lanelle, and the sale’s top three prices, was Tommy and Aiden O’Harte who are new breeders from Leonards Island, Clones, Co Monaghan, Republic of Ireland. Mr O’Harte, who is looking to build up a herd of around thirty to forty cows, owns Harte Peat Ltd a company that supplies a specialist peat product to the mushroom industry on a worldwide basis. Speaking after the sale Tommy O’Harte said that he had closely followed Limousin pedigree sales and shows in recent years and had been attracted by the quality of the Dinmore cattle to the eye and for their depth of breeding.
A packed ringside audience saw some brisk bidding for the best of the animals forward with twelve lots in all making 5000gns including two at five figures and over. Auctioneer Paul Gentry of Newark Livestock Sales said the sale had seen a tremendous amount of interest both in advance and on the sale day, with both new and established breeders looking to secure the best of the bloodlines available. “The cattle were keenly sought after and it is credit to Paul Dawes and the team at Dinmore that turned out an exceptional team of cattle.”
The second top price selling for 11,000gns to the O’Harte’s was the July 2014 born Dinmore Juniper. Another embryo calf Dinmore Juniper is sired by Objat and is out of another prolific and show winning cow in the herd, Dinmore Daffodil. This heifer, with a Beef Value of LM+51, is a full sister to Dinmore Hitman which sold to the Spittalton herd of Andrew Burnett in Stirling.
At 8000gns, and another to Co Monaghan, was Dinmore Latena. This young calf, March 2015 born, is sired by Dinmore Goldeneye and is out of Dinmore Eathena whose granddam is the noted Dinmore Athena.
Making 6800gns was another of the maiden heifers, Dinmore Lace. This April 2015-born heifer is by Wilodge Vantastic and out of Carmorn Voney, the double interbreed winner from Balmoral, making Lace a full sister to the 36,000gns Dinmore Fabulous. Selling with a beef value of +39 she was the pick of C Roberts, Rowen, Conwy for their Gorswen pedigree herd.
Just shy of that at 6500gns was Dinmore Jolorie, a September 2014-born heifer out of the 2014 Burke Trophy winning duo, Diamant and Dinmore Glorious, herself a Vantastic daughter and full sister to Dinmore Elle. This one was knocked down to D and R McFarland, Omagh, Co Tyrone, having been AI’d to the 140,000gns Trueman Jagger.
A pair then sold at 6000gns, with the first of these being, Dinmore Imogen, a January 2013-born first calver. She’s by Neuf and out of Dinmore Elise, an Ionesco daughter and sold with her heifer calf, Dinmore Lullaby, at foot by Crownhead Busby. Dinmore Imogen was sold to the establishing Willowbank herd of Geoff Hadfield, Little Moss, Droylsden, Manchester.
The other at this price was Dinmore Jipsie, another first calver, this time being by Dinmore Goldeneye and out of Bipsis, a Muscien daughter. She sold with her heifer calf at foot by Diamant and having been AI’d to Trueman Jagger and was another to go to Mr. Hadfield.
Picking up some quality cattle Mr Hadfield then paid 5800gns for Dinmore Helena, a February 2012-born Procters Duavalier son out of Dinmore Eathena, a Wilodge Tonka daughter. This second calver sold with a heifer calf at foot, Dinmore Mylena, by Dinmore Hiflier and AI’d again to Jagger.
At the same money was Dinmore Jonquil, a Vantastic daughter out of Croftlimousin Primrose, a Talent daughter. This May 2014-born heifer is a full sister to the polific show winner Dinmore Daffodil and sold in-calf to Ampertaine Gigolo. She was the pick of the Lawrence family, Upper Farm, Far Coton, Market Bosworth, Nuneaton for their Bosworth herd. A further animal at 5800gns was Dinmore Lovely, a Plumtree Fantastic daughter out of Carmorn Voney, making her a maternal sister to Dinmore Elegance and the 36,000gns Dinmore Fabulous. She was bought by Andrew Gammie for his Westpit herd at Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire.
After that came a 5200gns call for Dinmore Jade, a June 2014-born Dinmore Goldeneye daughter. She is out of Wilodge Littlegem, an Epatant daughter and grand dam of the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus. She sold in-calf to Ampertaine Gigolo and was bought by GLP Livestock, Salton, Yorkshire.
Then making 5000gns was Dinmore Isocelle, a Neuf daughter out of the noted Vantastic daughter Dinmore Elle. This heifer sold with a beef value of +48 and having been AI’d to Ronick Hawk, sire of the 18,000gns Dinmore Goldcrest.
Record price of 5000gns set for frozen embryos
One of the highlights of the sale was the select offering of frozen embryos, with a new UK all-breeds record price for frozen embryos set at 5000gns apiece.
Making this price were embryos sired by Ampertaine Gigolo and out of Trueman Grazia, making them full siblings to the world record priced bull Trueman Jagger which sold last autumn for 140,000gns. These embryos were bought by Teus Dekker of the Cowporation Limousin herd, Holland.
Making 3200gns was a single embryo by Objat and out of Dinmore Daffodil, a Vantastic daughter, with this one being bought by M W Jones, Penisarwaen, Caernarfon.
Then at 2200gns apiece were a pair of embryos by the 140,00gns Trueman Jagger and out of Ampertaine Estelle, a Sympa daughter. These sold to Procters Farm, Clitheroe, Lancashire.
