The Drumgooland Flock owned by Paul and Baillie O’Connor, Seaforde, Co Down hosted this year’s Texel Club open night on Saturday, 1st August.
The Drumgooland flock has enjoyed a number of successes in the show and sales rings over the past three years including RUAS Balmoral show winning male champion, reserve male champion, aged ram, shearling ram, ewe lamb and the ram lamb class twice.
Drumgooland Flock has also enjoyed success at local shows winning breed championships and interbreed champion and friends and members were appreciative of the quality of sheep on view.
Established in 2010 with foundation females purchased from the Forkins, Tamnamoney, Tullagh, Springwell, Kiltariff, Strathbogie, Sportsmans, Milnbank, Cowal and Ettrick Flocks, members were delighted to have the opportunity to view the Drumgooland’s Flock and gain a preview of the ram lambs for sale over the coming weeks both at the premier sale on Saturday 21st August and at local sales in the coming weeks.
The evening was packed full of activities including the Young Breeder’s junior games knockout competition for younger members and a barbecue with burgers supplied by Ian Millar’s Butchers, Ballyclare.
The club’s annual stock judging competition was a success again this year with a good range of competitors from all age groups.

Other activities included Guess the Number of Sweets in the Jar won by Taylor Jackson, Guess the Name of The Teddy won by Archie Hoyles, Guess the Weight of the Tup won by Martin Hamill and Name That Tup won by Grace McAuley.
The evening’s raffle and charity auction was co-ordinated by Raymond Brady, Thompson’s Animal Feeds.
This year’s chosen charity is Motor Neurone Disease. The evening concluded with a presentation made to longstanding member Robbie Mulligan who recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
