Another big jump in lamb prices at Rathfriland

Another big jump in lamb prices on Tuesday evening with numbers almost doubled from the previous week.

There were over 200 lots of sheep with 309 ewes selling to £122 for texels from Dromore and £112 from South Armagh. Fat lambs sold o £89.50 for 27k from Drumlee with texel ram lambs to £100. The top 10 lots of lambs sold from £86.50 to £89.50. Store lambs were a flying trade e.g. 20.5k @ £77.50 with lighter lots 11k @ £40.

A lamb sold by Mr Fred Sloane of Drumlough that weighed 28k was donated to Newry Hospice reached £140. The lamb was purchased by Flagstaff Exports.

Well in excess of 300 head on Friday with many more bullocks and heifers in the entry. Weanling were again exceptionally dear, e.g, A 6 months old Ch male 310k from Kilbroney sold @ £780. A top of £925 for a 446k Lim from Banbridge with others £920, £900 and £835 all Ch bred from Attical. Over 70 store heifers sold to 229 pence per kilo for a 314k Lim from Banbridge @ £720. An Annalong farmer topped her heifer @ £935. 69 bullocks sold to £1050 for an OTM lot. A further 12 bullocks sold @ over £1000 each. Fat cows to £1070 and Sucklers to £1060. Over 120 dropped calves cleared up to £440 for a Angus from a Clough farm. Angus calves were particularly dear e.g, Warrenpoint farmer £430. Ballinaskeagh farmer £400 and £390 and Annalong farmer £395.
