The Nuffield Farming Conference is being hosted in Belfast this year – 10 years since Northern Ireland last hosted this prestigious event.
“We’re looking forward to hosting this year’s conference. It’s a great opportunity for guests, the industry, and alumni to learn from the presenting Scholars,” says NI group chairman and 1993 Nuffield Farming Scholar, Campbell Tweed OBE. Study topics this year include: ‘Facilitating change within the red meat chain’; ‘Building resilient, productive and profitable soils’; and ‘Questioning whether the UK poultry sector could ever say no to all antibiotics’.

The event has a packed agenda, including a farm visit, a presentation from each of the 2014 Scholars, an awards ceremony for the newly elected 2016 Scholars, the AGM and an evening dinner.
“Since we last hosted the conference, there have been a few changes to the trust, reflecting how it’s continually evolving and moving forward, together with agricultural and related industries. This is clearly demonstrated by Scholars’ report titles, which are investigating relevant and progressive topics.
“Our conference is truly unique, and while it evolves, it keeps to the Trust’s original objective of broadening horizons, learning from international world leaders in food and farming, and transferring knowledge to local businesses,” says Campbell.
He considers the event to be unmissable, especially for anyone interested in applying or learning about Nuffield Farming Scholarships, or for individuals who are interested in forward-thinking, innovative findings and ideas in the agricultural and related sectors.
