Topping trade at the Beltex Sheep Society’s in-lamb female sale at Carlisle on Friday (11 December) was a 2500gns call for an in-lamb gimmer from Allan Jackson’s Headlind flock.
The sale leader, Headling Wispy, is ET bred by Damien V/D Drie Musschen and is out of Southholm Rozanna. This one sold to Martin and Cyril Millar, Northern Ireland, as the foundation female for a new Beltex flock.
Following her at 2000gns was a gimmer from Stuart Wood, Woodies Walnut. Sired by Glenkeen Sanders she is out of Headlind Jellybean, a Frits V/H Groentenhof daughter and sold to T and J Bellfield, Longnor, Buxton.
Also at this price was Buckles Willie, an Ardstewart Super Mario daughter from Kevin and Rachel Buckle. This one is out of a dam by Buckles Now or Never and sold in-lamb to Broxty Supreme. She was knocked down to Andrew Wood, Whittingham, Preston.
Three then traded at 1900gns, with the first of these being the first in the ring from the Artnagullion flock of Elizabeth McAllister. This was Artnagullion Wow, a Woodies Snoop Dog daughter out of a dam by Kingledores Micky. This one also headed home with Andrew Wood.
Second to make 1900gns was Orkney Wonder Girl from the Copland family. This Artnagullion Ringmaster daughter is out of a Forglen ET daughter and was sold in lamb to Corstane Whistler. Buying her was Andrew McCutcheon, Trillick, Co Tyrone.
And the final bid at this level came when Jimmy Young, Muirton, bought Smart Ass Amber, a ewe lamb from D E Owen. This daughter of The Godfather is out of a Woodies Rice Crispie, a ewe by Glantre Norris.
Then at 1800gns was Jock McMillan’s best of the sale Clary Wren. This gimmer by Orkney Something Special is out of a dam by Clary Sandra, a Dooley Pierre daughter and sold in lamb to Clyde Wonderboy. She was the choice of I Reid, Methven, Perth.
Another making 1800gns was the reserve champion from the pre-sale show, a ewe lamb from Matthew Burleigh. This was Matt’s Autograph, a Lyonpark Thrust daughter out of a dam by Drumchapel Replay. She sold to David Findlay, Middleham, Layburn.
After that at 1700gns was the third prize ewe lamb, Woodies AAA from Stuart Wood. She’s by Glenkeen Sanders and out of an imported dam and sold to Andrw Wood, Whittingham.
And the same buyer then paid 1600gns for the second prize aged ewe, an imported Belgian ewe from Stuart Wood. She sold in-lamb to Airyolland Weapon.
Giles Pyman then paid 1550gns for Airyolland Pride from Neale and Janet McQuiston. This is a 2010-born ewe by Clary Muscle Man out of an Airyolland Kingsize daughter and in lamb to the 18,000gns Dooley Napal.
Also making this price was Ardstewart Alyssa from Wade and Alison McCrabbe. She’s by Rathbone Tony out of a dam by Broughton Pound Stretcher, with this ewe lamb selling to R M Machray, Daviot, Inverurie.
Another two then shared a 1500gns call, with the first being Corstane Wildberry from the Dunlop family. This Woodies Ringleader sired gimmer is out of a dam by Corstane Mighty Max and sold in lamb to Padkin Sugar Daddy. She was bought by Declan Robinson, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
The second to make 1500gns was the day’s overall champion, a ewe lamb from Rory Gregor. This was Gregor’s Amber, an ET bred Kingledores Wordsworth daughter out of an imported dam. She sold to M Russell, Biggar.
Averages; 37 ewes £624.32, 137 gimmers £674.38, 50 ewe lambs £624.33, four pregnancies £708.75 (Harrison and Hetherington).
