This year’s Northern Lights sale of in-lamb Texel females on behalf of the Tullagh, Springwell, Mullan, Glenhone, Braehead and Blackstown flocks once again offers new and established breeders the chance to buy in to some of the best proven Texel breeding Northern Ireland has to offer.
Taking place at 6.30pm on 18 December at Hilltown Livestock Market, each flock’s consignment includes choice gimmers from the top families and in-lamb to sires from noted families in many of the UK’s best Texel flocks.
Brian Hanthorn’s Mullan draft includes daughters of the 60,000gns Teiglum Tornado as well as gimmers by the homebred Mullan Supremacy and the 2014 sire of the year Oberstown Usian Bolt.
Service sires for this impressive group of females include the 5000gns Strathbogie Wanted, himself a son of the 52,000gns Mullan Vivaldi and out of a dam which is a full sister to the 24,000gns Strathbogie Smokey Blue.
Meanwhile, Henry Gamble’s Springwell consignment again features exceptional breeding on all sides, with a maternal sister to the 38,000gns Springwell Ulsterboy among the highlights, as well as daughters of Usain Bolt and Mossvale Unique which has bred well in the Springwell flock.
Service sires here include 12,000gns Holylee Volcano a Strathbogie Usher son with noted breeding from Douganhill McFly and Cambwell Laird in his back pedigree.
Forward from the Currie family’s Tullagh flock is once again another strong run of gimmers from the heart of the flock’s best families, including daughters of Cwmcerrig Topper a former Royal Welsh Show first prize winner and himself by the famous Kelso Pavarotti.
This consignment again includes gimmers in lamb to exciting service sires, such as the much admired homebred Tullagh Valhalla and the 7000gns purchase Milnbank Womaniser, a son of the 42,000gns Glenside Valhalla.
Also in the sale is a run from David Warwick’s Braehead flock with this noted consignment featuring daughters of the 14,000gns Baltier Thunderbird and Northern Irish Cornerstone Tin Tin. These gimmers are again served to exceptionally well bred sires, with the aforementioned Strathbogie Wanted among them.
Alongside that the Wilson family’s Blackstown flock is putting forward another top quality run of gimmers which will be more than a match for their previous drafts which have often been the highlight of previous Northern Lights sales.
Included within this run are gimmers by the 60,000gns Teiglum Tornado and out of the dam of the 2014 Balmoral Show male champion. These are in-lamb to the 12,000gns Holylee Volcano a Strathbogie Usher son with noted breeding from Douganhill McFly and Cambwell Laird in his back pedigree.
Adding to the sale this year is guest consigner Martin McConville’s Glenhone flock. This young flock was founded in 2011 with females from a number of top families and this guest consignment of gimmers features daughters of sires such as the 60,000gns Teiglum Tornado and Springhill Twenty Twelve, a ram lamb retained by John Foster’s 2014 National Flock Competition winning Springhill flock.
Commenting ahead of the sale Henry Gamble, speaking on behalf of all consigners, said this year’s Northern Lights sale features possibly the best selection of genetics offered in the history of the sale.
He added: “The opportunity to buy females of this quality is one breeders shouldn’t overlook, each flock’s consignment contains animals of the highest quality and previous purchases from the Northern Lights sale have gone on to breed exceptionally well for their buyers, including producing show winning lambs and high sellers too.”
