CAFRE are calling on poultry producers to apply to the new Poultry Business Development Groups. Applications are open until 14 December 2015.
Industry leaders are very supportive of the initiative and are encouraging producer involvement.
Tom Forgrave, Chairman of the UFU Poultry Committee, said: “My father and I have been producing broilers for over 25 years. Our business is continually striving to be more efficient and to grow. Business Development Groups have a very useful role to play in sharing knowledge and looking at the best techniques and technologies currently available.”
CAFRE is aiming to create 10 specialist poultry groups so that participants get the most up to date and relevant information to apply to their own enterprises. In addition it is intended to group producers in line with their processors/packers, in so far as possible. Groups will meet a number of times per year.
In the interests of biosecurity, farm visits will be replaced by meeting in venues where members will use multimedia to present their farm enterprises for group discussion. Participants will get support payment for both attendance and for facilitating these talks. The scheme is open for applications until 14 December 2015 at 4pm.
