Calved heifer sells for £1300 at Markethill

Dairy stock sold to £1300 for a calved heifer from a Loughgall farmer at Markethill on Tuesday 24th November.

A Stewartstown farmer sold two calved heifers at £1260 and £1220 each. Others sold from £900 to £960 each.

CULL COWS: The 180 cull cows returned a steady trade. Good quality Friesian cows from £90 to £102 for 720k at £730. Beef- bred cows from £100 to £124 for 590k at £730. Second quality Friesian cows from £70 to £85 per 100 kilos with the poorest types from £45 to £60 per 100 kilos.

CALVES: The 190 lots in the calf ring sold in a very firm trade with top quality bulls to £430 for a three week old Simm followed by £390 paid twice for three week old Char. Main demand from £260 to £335 each. Heifer calves to £420 for a four week old Char. Main demand from £190 to £240 each.

Young Friesian bull calves (under five week old) sold to 3140 each. Several more from £70 to £130 each with plainer types from £20 to £45 each.
