Markethill Livestock Mart’s annual Christmas Show and Sale of Beef Cattle and Prime Lambs will take place on Thursday, November 24, with judging commencing at 6pm.

The event is being sponsored by Primestock Meats, Lurgan. The judge is Gareth Corrie, Newtownards.

As with previous years, the event will support a local charity. This year the chosen charity is ‘Air Ambulance NI.’ in memory of Lesley-Ann McCarragher. The Milford teenager was tragically killed in an alleged hit and run road traffic incident in April of this year. Lesley-Ann was from a well-known local farming family and was a student at Loughry College.

Air Ambulance NI will provide Northern Ireland with its first helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS). This will save lives and complement existing ambulance provision.

Traditionally the sale showcases the best of local beef cattle and prime lambs. It will also feature a special entry of choice replacement beef breeding heifers.

Following the sale of livestock, the charity auction will entirely comprise of high value donated items from a considerable number of local businesses. These include: NC Engineering, Fane Valley Stores, A-One Control Services (Ivan Nesbitt, Markethill), Alexander Mills (Benburb), Craigmore (Richhill), Diffin Farm Supplies (Killylea), Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel (Enniskillen), The McCarragher Family (Milford), Linden Foods, John & Luke Murray (Tynan), Roy Nesbitt & Son Plant Hire (Killylea), North Armagh Feeds (Portadown), Pittstop Car Accessories & Motor Repairs (Armagh), W K Powell and Son (Keady), and Simply Irresistible (Banbridge).

A number of leading local sports personalities are also supporting the event.

A full list of the auction items will be advertised in the press and on Facebook.
