Entry of 1890 sheep at Markethill

An entry of 1890 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday sold in a very firm trade resulting in a complete clearance.

The 1435 hoggets returned a firmer trade. Heavy hoggets sold to £98 each with all pens from £90 to £97 each. All good quality pens sold from 358p to 374p per kilo with a top of 394p per kilo for 24 kilos at £94.50 each. In all, 940 heavy hoggets averaged 26.8 kilos at £93.50 each (348p).

Middleweight hoggets sold to 400p per kilo for 23 kilos at £92 each with all good quality pens selling from 365p to 386p per kilo for 22 kilos at £85 each.

The 240 cull ewes sold to £130 each. Main demand sold from £90 to £119 each. Plainer ewes sold from £60 to £80 each.

In the Breeding ring doubles sold to £242 each. Several more sold from £180 to £230 each. Singles sold to £192 each with all good outfits selling from £140 to £180 each.
