An entry of 1803 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 10th August returned an excellent trade for all classes of stock.
Heavy lambs sold to £89.50 each for 13 lambs weighing 25.2kgs (355p). Top rate of 356p per kilo was paid for 24.2kgs @ £86 each. All good quality pens sold from 340p to 354p per kilo. The entire entry of heavy lambs averaged 25.3kgs @ £87 each (343p) per kilo.
Middleweight lambs sold from 350p to 567p per kilo for 22.1kgs @ £81 each, followed by 364p per kilo for22kgs @ £80 each.
Store lamb prices increased in line with fat lamb trade. Light stores sold from 370p to 411p per kilo for 16.3kgs @ £67 each. Stronger stores sold from 350p to 377p per kilo for 18.3kgs @ £69 each.
Nearly 300 cull ewes sold in a strong trade with good quality pens from £70 to £92 each. Plainer ewes sold from £50 to £65 each.
Breeding rams sold to £320 for a Shearling Texel. Several more sold from £290 to £310 each. Ewe-hoggets sold to £165 each with several pens from £130 to £160 each.
