North Antrim farmers are pictured during a recent Feed and Finance Training event on the farm of David and Stephen Morrison, Armoy.
The herd of 167 cows is split into two groups. The first group is milked by two Lely robots and is currently averaging 43 litres. They are housed full time and are fed a TMR to supply M+28 litres (heifers M+25) and concentrates are topped up in the robot. The second group is milked twice daily through the parlour and currently average 26 litres per day. They are still at grass during the day and housed at night. The TMR is supplying M+14 litres and again concentrates are being fed through the parlour.
Farmers were encouraged to complete a cashflow forecast to help identify where income may not cover costs. This will provide an indication of finance requirements over the next 12 months.
Cashflow Template is available on www.dardni.gov.uk/online-services under CAFRE Business Tools. For further information, contact your Dairying Development Adviser.
