Firm demand for lambs at Markethill

An entry of 1420 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday sold in a very firm demand with lamb prices slightly firmer on the week.

Heavy lambs sold from £84 to £88 each. The sale average of £85.70 each for all the heavy lambs sold. Top rate of 358p per kilo was paid for 24 kilos at £86 each.

Middleweight lambs sold to 380p per kilo for 22 kilos at £83.50 each, followed by 375p per kilo for 22.7 kilos at £85 each. Main demand sold from 360p to 373p per kilo.

A very big entry of store lambs sold in an exceptionally strong trade. Light pens sold to £64 each for 16.7 kilos (383). Stronger pens sold to £69.50 for 19.5 kilos (357). Main demand sold from 340p to 380p per kilo.

Cull ewes sold to £101 with all good quality ewes from £75 to £100 each. Plainer ewes sold from £50 to £70 each.
