Firm trade for cattle at Hilltown mart

Another tremendous entry of store cattle, weanlings and sucklers at Hilltown on Saturday, 2nd May.

They sold in a very firm trade for all classes of stock. Leading the way with the top price per kilo was a 234k male weanling making £1090 from Kilcoo farmer.

Cull Cows: A smaller entry of plainer cull cows achieved a top price and top rate of £750 at 510k (147ppk) from Downpatrick farmer.

Sample prices: Rathfriland farmer 570k at £640. Hilltown farme: 440k at £500.

Cows and Calves: There was a yard packed full of good quality cows with calves at foot, they achieved a top price of £1720 from Newry farmer.

Heifer Weanlings: An excellent trade for heifer weanlings, highest price of £905 at 496k from Mayobridge farmer. Top rate of 296ppk at 270k making £800 from Kilkeel farmer. Newcastle farmer 376k at £800,358k at £750. Kilkeel farmer 284k at £770,292k at £710, 236k at £620. Downpatrick farmer 326k at £740, 302k at £650. Kilcoo farmer: 230k at £570

Heifers: Highest price heifer made £990 at 480k from Kilkeel farmer. Top rate of 223ppk at 426k making £950 from Newry farmer. Hilltown farmer 476k at £875. Mayobridge farmer 428k at £910. Warrenpoint farmer 394k at £800. Ballymartin farmer 488k at £960, 484k at £900. Newry farmer 522k at £900, 382k at £810,334k at £700. Castlewellan farmer 360k at £720.

Weanling Males: The weanling males and bullocks sold in another grade trade to a packed ringside of buyers. Hilltown farmer 242k at £695. Mayobridge farmer 236k at £600.
