First case of bovine Schmallenberg confirmed in calf

AFBI have said they have confirmed their first case of bovine Schmallenberg this year in a calf in Co Fermanagh.

The stillborn calf showed signs of foetal deformity due to the virus which is spread by midges.

So far this year AFBI have confirmed 29 cases of Schmallenberg in sheep throughout Northern Ireland.
