North Antrim MLA Robin Swann has challenged the Sinn Fein Farming Minister “to work more closely with her Executive colleagues – especially the Enterprise Minister – to ensure there is more effective support for suppliers who provide resources for farmers”.
Mr Swann was speaking after posing a written question to the Enterprise Minister on the issue. His question had asked the Enterprise Minister “what support measures are in place for agricultural supply merchants to enable them to improve their business or increase their stock portfolios”.
Responding to Assemblyman Swann, the Enterprise Minister stated: “Invest NI provides a range of financial and advisory support for all businesses across Northern Ireland.
“A number of initiatives, workshops and seminars are available that offer support and guidance to local ‘supply merchants’.
“Invest NI’s Business Support Team also provides a valuable source of business information and makes referrals to other stakeholders as well as web based sources of support, such as nibusinessinfo,” the minister told Mr Swann.
Mr Swann added: “I want the Farming Minister to work more closely with her fellow Executive Ministers, and in particular her colleague at Enterprise, to guarantee that the best assistance is given to agricultural merchants who are supplying our hard-pressed farming industry in Northern Ireland.”
