A Co Antrim haulier has been convicted of two charges of transporting pigs without authorisation and a certificate of competence.

Desmond Fry, of Tavnaghmore Road, Randalstown, was convicted at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court of one charge of transporting pigs without a short journey authorisation and one charge of transporting pigs without a certificate of competence as required by the Regulations.

Fry pleaded guilty and was given an absolute discharge on both counts and £34 costs.

This case arose when an Official Veterinary Surgeon at an abattoir examined a load of pigs that had been transported by Fry from a farm in Co Donegal.
