Heavy lambs sell to £87 each at Markethill

An entry of 1480 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 21st September sold in a firmer trade, particularly store lambs which sold in the strongest trade for several weeks.

Heavy lambs sold to £87 each with several pens from £83 to £86 each.

Top rate of 344p per kilo was paid for 24.3 kilos at £83.50 each. The entire entry of heavy lambs averaged 25.1 kilos at £84.50 each (337p).

Middleweight lambs sold steadily from 345p to 367p per kilo for 21.8 kilos at £80 each.

Light stores sold to 430p per kilo for 12.2 kilos at £52 each. Stronger pens sold to 394p per kilo for 17 kilos at £67 each. Main demand sold from 365p to 404p per kilo.

Heavy cull ewes sold from £65 to £81 each. Plainer ewes sold from £40 to £60 each.

Ewe hoggets peaked at £152 each. Several pens sold from £130 to £150 each.

A show and sale of pedigree Texel rams sold to a top of 600gns, 400gns and 370gns.
