The much anticipated second production sale from the noted Ranfurly and Ballinlare Farm Simmental herds takes place next Saturday (September 3).
Conducted by Taaffe Auctions, and guest auctioneer David Lowry, the sale will take place at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart, commencing at 12.30pm.
The catalogue features an entry of 45 in-calf and maiden heifers, all bred from proven and prize winning bloodlines.
David Hazelton said: ”Our inaugural production sale in 2012 exceeded all expectations, attracting buyers from throughout the UK and Ireland. We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback received from customers, and is it satisfying to see that our cattle have been successful in other herds.
“Heifers sold in 2012 have produced sons to a top of 7,500gns at Stirling, while many others have bred prize winning progeny. The top priced heifer’s first son, Denizes Exclusive, sold to the Genus AI stud.”
The offering from Joe Wilson’s 60-cow Ballinlare Farm Herd based at Rathfriland, County Down, features 31 heifers. More than 20 of these are daughters of the herd’s 20,000gns stock bull Auchorachan Wizard – junior and supreme Perth champion in 2010.
Joe Wilson said: ”Wizard has been breeding well, producing numerous prize winning daughters that have sold to a top of 6,700gns.”
Auchrochan Wizard daughters, Ballinlare Farm Fleur (lot 27) and Ballinlare Farm Honey (lot 45), are both bred from Ballinlare Farm Allegra – first prize senior cow at Balmoral and Armagh in 2016. She is by the Irish-bred Raceview Valintino Miracle S and is out of Kilbride Farm Eunice 26R.
Another Wizard daughter Ballinlare Farm Goldengirl (lot 39), is a full sister to the February 2015 Stirling female champion Ballinlare Farm Ellie sold for 3,800gns.
Also selling (lot 26) is Ballinlare Farm Fanny, a November 2014 born Glebefarm Tyson daughter bred from a dam by the 12,000gns Dovefields Gallant. This heifer is a granddaughter of the herd’s prolific show cow Ballinlare Farm Moneypenny – winner of three successive Balmoral breed championships in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
David Hazelton’s Dungannon-based Ranfurly herd is offering 14 heifers from the Weikel, Kleeb, Blende, Stella and Diana cow families.
Included in the offering is the Balmoral reserve junior champion Ranfurly Weikel 16 th (lot 29). Born in January 2015, she is by Cleenagh Flasher, and bred from Ranfurly Weikel 11th – reserve female of the year 2014.
Hillcrest Champion is behind the breeding of Ranfurly Weikel 16 th (lot 22). Bred from the herd’s tremendous brood cow South Park King Kong Weikel 2nd, she is a full sister to Ranfurly Weikel 3rd – winner of ten successive breed championship, and female of the year in 2009.
David Hazelton added: ”There are four Weikel’s offered for sale, providing breeders with a rare opportunity to acquire a female from the number one cow family at Ranfurly.”
Also catalogued is Ranfurly Lady Diana 26th (lot 29). She is by Omorga Murray, and out of the Cleenagh Flasher daughter Ranfurly Lady Diana 16th. This greatly admired April 2015 heifer won her class at the Pedigree Calf Fair last year, and was fourth in a strong junior heifer class at Balmoral. She also stood first in her class at Enniskillen Show.
All animals will be sold under NBA rules. This is not an export sale, but animals purchased for export to mainland UK or Republic of Ireland, will be kept at an approved EU lairage facility where they will undergo the necessary pre-movement tests.
Both herds are members of the AFBI Health Scheme, and all sale animals have been vaccinated for Lepto and BVD.
