Improved trade for bullocks and heifers at Rathfriland

There was an improved trade for both bullocks and heifers on Friday at Rathfriland Co-Op.

Bullocks sold to £595 over their weight for a Newry farmer. i.e. 580k @ £1175 and 566k @ £1160. A top of 209p/k was paid in this section for a 468k Ch @ £980 from a Katesbridge farmer. An Annalong farmer topped the heifer section with a 658k Ch @ £1155. A top per kilo of 204.5pence was paid for a 538k AA @ £1100 from a Newry farmer. A smaller entry of weanlings sold at unbelievable prices e.g. 320k @ £840, 306k @ £775, 232k @ £585, 274k @ £685. Only 5 weanlings sold at under £2.00 per kilo. An entry of springing AA heifers sold to £1050 and from £960 for a Tanvally farmer. The dropped calf section reached £670 for a 5 month old Her bull from Ballymartin, Dromore and Katesbridge farmers. They each obtained £480 for Lim and BB bull calves. Hereford heifer calves reached £385 for a Dromore farmer.

There was a big rise in lamb price on Tuesday evening.

These sold to £91 per head and 379.5 p/k. Fat ewes sold to £103 each. There were 1100 sheep sold in 2 hours because of the good trade. An entry of 800 lambs saw 50% or 400 head sell at over £80 per head.
