Local Hereford breeders have voted to appoint two members to serve on the council of the Hereford cattle society for the next three years.

Topping the poll were Robin Irvine, who runs the Graceland herd at Whitecross, Co Armagh and David Smyth from Saintfield, whose Magheraknock prefix is well known in Hereford circles.

Robin is no stranger to Hereford House having served many years on council, including a term as president in 2007 and a three year stint as chairman of the Society. He was influential in introducing breed improvement initiatives and in the development of the branded Hereford beef schemes both in Northern Ireland and at national level.

David Smyth is returning for his second term on council. He has also given sterling service to the breed having served as secretary of the Northern Ireland Hereford Breeders association and as coordinator of the certified Hereford beef scheme.
