Farmers and agri-businesses are being urged to get their entries in early for this year’s Farming Life and Danske Bank awards.
The fifth annual awards ceremony was launched in style last month at the Walled Gardens, at Greenmount College when representatives from Farming Life and Danske Bank were joined by a wide range of sponsors from right across the sector.
As well as a number of awards recognising Northern Ireland’s primary producers, there is also a range of business awards and special recognition categories.
An additional category this year is the Farm SAFE Award, sponsored by the Farm Safety Partnership.
A spokesperson stated: “The Farm Safety Partnership (FSP) is proud to sponsor the 2015 Farming Life & Danske Bank Farm SAFE Award.
“The new award recognises outstanding commitment to the improvement of farm safety by an individual through their substantial or long-term contribution to the health and safety of Northern Ireland’s farming community.
“Through the FSP’s ongoing Stop and Think SAFE campaign, awareness about safety is high across the industry, however more work needs to be done as preventable accidents are still happening. We’d encourage farmers to take a proactive role in improving safety and to help us to ensure that safe working practices are in place across the industry, at all times,” the spokesperson added.
“We hope this new award will help play a small part in developing and promoting a safety first culture on every farm in Northern Ireland.”
The FSP comprises the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU), NFU Mutual (NFUM), the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) and the Northern Ireland Agricultural Producers Association (NIAPA).
The FSP assists Northern Ireland’s farming community to work safely and to tackle the problem of work-related fatalities and injuries on our farms.
