Judge praises Newry qualifiers

The sun shone for judge Mr Mervyn Eager to select the Newry Show qualifiers for the McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship final.

Mervyn from Newcastle, County Dublin dispersed his Evergrange Holstein Herd in 2004. He maintains a close involvement with the Irish dairy industry and has judged most of the shows in Ireland. He has also judged in Great Britain and Spain.

Inch Sam Roxy VG88 (2yr old) led by James Cleland with the judge Mr Mervyn Eager and Harold Stevenson from Mclarnon Feeds.

Mervyn’s first qualifier and the Newry Show champion dairy cow was Inch Sam Roxy VG88 (2 yr old) owned by Jim Morrison from Downpatrick. Roxy is in her 2nd lactation and gave 9462 kgs at 4.49% BF in her 1st lactation. She is currently giving 44Kgs and projected to give 11331 Kgs in her 2nd lactation. The judge highlighted her youthfulness, dairy character and beautiful udder.

The second qualifier and Newry Show reserve champion was Inch Tennyson Joyce EX91 owned by Edgar Bassett from Downpatrick. She is a 3rd calver which is currently giving 48Kgs and gave 11682 Kgs at 4.25% BF in her 2nd lactation. The judge praised her open rib, locomotion and dairy strength.

Both qualifiers are wished the best of success in the final of The McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship held at Antrim Show on Saturday 25th July.
