Large entry of 2300 sheep at Markethill

A very large entry of 2300 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 19th August sold in a slightly slower trade for fat lambs.

Store lamb prices remained steady.

Heavy lambs sold from £64 to £67 each with several pens from £68 to £71 each. Top rate of 276p per kilo was paid for 24.4 kilos @ £67.50 each. Main demand sold from 263p to 272p per kilo.

Good quality middleweight lambs sold from 275p to 294p per kilo for 20.1 kilos at £59 each.

Light stores sold to 359p per kilo for 14.3 kilos at £51.10 each. All good quality pens sold from 320p to 346p per kilo. Stronger stores sold from 290p to 312p per kilo for 18.2 kilos at £57 each.

The 350 cull ewes sold readily to a top of £102. Main demand sold from £60 to £82 each. Plainer ewes sold from £40 to £55 each.

A full yard of breeding sheep returned a firm demand. Ewe – hoggets sold to £150 each with several pens from £120 to £145 each with others from £95 to £110 each.

Rams sold to £340 with several more from £200 to £300 each.
