Loughs Agency are seeking young people for the next Foyle Ambassadors programme.
The programme is aimed at 14-17 year olds from the Derry~Londonderry area who are interested in the natural environment.
The programme will run for 10 weeks starting 18th May through to July.
On Wednesday evenings the Ambassadors meet at Loughs Agency HQ in Prehen to undertake personal development activities such as confidence building, citizenship, team work and leadership.
Then on Saturdays, we meet again to undertake activities that will increase your knowledge of local habitats and species, as well as carrying out activities to improve these habitats eg litter picks and planting.
You will explore and discover local habitats and wild places through activities such as canoeing, boating, surfing, fishing, and lots more!
The common theme of the project is the river and the purpose of the programme is to get young people connected with the River Foyle, its tributaries, estuary, coast, its wildlife and the recreational opportunities it holds.
The hope is that participants on the programme will develop a new and positive understanding of the river and its resources.
The programme is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and coordinated by the Loughs Agency in partnership with the Education Authority Youth Service.
Applicants will be invited at allocated times to meet with the team leaders for an informal chat before being accepted on the programme.
If oversubscribed, short-listing will be carried out as there are only 16 places available.
Closing date for expressions of interest is 4.00pm on Friday the 6th of May 2016.
