The first of the annual breeding sheep sales at Ballymena Mart featuring Suffolk Cheviot X and Continental X hoggets and ewe lambs attracted an entry of 3000 sheep. As a result of lower finished lamb prices the trade achieved was less than last year but generally much better than anticipated. 2,500 hoggets sold to average £132 per head, a fall of £18 per head on the year and 400 ewe lambs averaged £85 per head which was £13 per head down on 2014. In many cases the quality of the sheep on offer was exceptional with some excellent high prices achieved for hoggets which sold to £200 per head and lambs to £132 per head. Shows in both sections were held prior to the sale, sponsored by the NI Texel Club and Suffolk Sheep Society (NI branch) and judged by G Fleck and D McMillen respectively.
