MARTS: Markethill

An entry of 660 cattle at Markethill on Saturday 28th February sold in a very strong demand in all rings.

Highlight of the sale was a special entry of 34 in-calf heifers from an Armagh farmer which sold to a top of £2120 each with others at £2100, £2090 and £2000 each. The average price of the entire entry was £1790 each with several lots going to Scotland. Heifers and calves at foot sold to £1980 with others at £1950, £1940 and £1900.

HEIFERS

The 240 store heifers returned an excellent trade for a very high quality entry. Forward heifers to £244 for 500k at £1220. Middleweights to £247 for 400k at £995. Main demand from £200 to £228 per 100 kilos. Second quality heifers in very firm demand from £185 to £195 per 100 kilos. Good quality lightweight heifers to £271 for 350k at £960. All good quality lightweights from £210 to £256 per 100 kilos.

Dairy stock sold to £1480 at Markethill on Tuesday 3rd March for a calved heifer from a Loughgall farmer. A Dromore farmer received £1360 for a calved heifer. A Stewartstown farmer received £1310 and £1230 for calved heifers.

CULL COWS: The 100 cull cows sold in another very firm demand for all classes. Fleshed cows sold to £177 for 670k at £1190 and up to £1260 for 890k (141). Main demand from £125 to £154 per 100 kilos. Friesian cows from £105 to £116 for 840k at £975. Young Friesian cattle from £140 to £166 for 650k at £1080 and up to £1315 for 950k. Second quality friesians from £88 to £100 per 100 kilos and the poorest types from £65 to £80 per 100 kilos. Clean cattle to £190 for 550k at £1050.
