A massive entry of 2230 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday sold in a noticeably firmer trade for fat lambs with store lambs and cull ewes in a steady demand.
The 1430 lambs returned an improved trade with heavy lambs selling to £75 each for 27.2 kilos. Several pens sold from £69 to £74.50 each. All good quality pens sold from 270p per kilo to a top of 308p per kilo for 24 kilos at £74 each. The sale average for all heavy lambs was 25.2 kilos at £68.80 (273).
Middleweight lambs sold to 309p per kilo for 21.7 kilos at £67 each. Main demand for good quality pens sold from 280p to 298p per kilo.
A very large entry of store lambs sold readily. Light stores sold from 310p to 356p per kilo for 13.5 kilos at £48 each. Stronger stores sold to 341p per kilo for 18.5 kilos at £63.20 each.
The 250 cull ewes sold in a steady demand with good quality ewes from £65 to £87 each. Plainer ewes sold from £40 to £55 each.
A full yard of breeding sheep included several good quality rams. A Texel Shearling sold at £440 with other Texels at £370, £310 and £300. Charollais rams sold at £290 and £250 each.
Good quality ewe – hoggets reached £145 each. All good quality pens sold from £110 to £142 each.
