The Northern Ireland Texel Club returned to Markethill recently for their Club Show and Sale, kindly sponsored by Fane Valley Co-op. Judge for the evening was young breeder Baillie O’Connor, Windermere Texels, Seaforde.
Mr O’Connor made his first choice in the Shearling Ram category from W&J Herdman’s Templepark pen. He was a Forkins Vespa son out of a Teglium Pornstar daughter.
Second place went to Robert Boyd, Newry for his Sheepbridge entry. This Beechvale Superior son out of a Kerryhill Revelry mother was purchased last year as a stock ram from David and James Boyd’s Crawfordsland Texels. He later sold to Andrew Morrison to top the Shearling trade for the evening at £493.50. Shearling trade remained steady averaging £351.75.
Taking the Fane Valley Championship for the second year running was the Hanthorn Family’s Mullan exhibit. Selling to Seamus O’Connor, Mullan Yogi, a Stathbogie Wanted son out of a Teglium Tornado dam changed hands for £630, making the top price of the evening.
Next in line for a rosette was Stewart Ferris with a Maineview Warner son out of a homebred ewe from his Leapoges pen. This lamb later went on to make £388.50 at the fall of the hammer.
Taking third prize and selling for the same money was R&J Trimble with their Curley exhibit.
Trade for lambs remained consistent with averages reaching £368.50.
