A new exhibition centre at Balmoral Park, outside Lisburn will be the largest and only bespoke exhibition centre in the province, it has been claimed.
Exciting developments are in progress for the Eikon Exhibition Centre which will be the pinnacle of Northern Ireland’s exhibition industry.
The Royal Ulster Agricultural Society’s multi-million pound investment follows the successful relocation of Ireland’s largest food and agri event, the Balmoral Show to the venue at the Maze. This will provide a versatile destination for organisers seeking to run events and exhibitions in Northern Ireland.
The experienced events team, relocated from the King’s Hall Complex, are ensuring the successful transition of progressive events and exhibitions to the Eikon. The unrivalled new premises are already attracting major exhibitions to Northern Ireland and discussions continue with many interested parties.
Eikon’s location adjacent to Sprucefield on the edge of Lisburn City is ideal for both trade and public events. Belfast City Centre is only 14 minutes away. The Eikon is highly accessible, situated close to the M1 intersection with the A1 Belfast to Dublin route. Within minutes of the Eikon there is hotel accommodation, restaurants and large retail outlets which complement the new development.
Theresa Morrissey, Financial and Commercial Director said: “The construction of the Eikon will establish the venue as the premier exhibition and event centre for Northern Ireland. The location is ideal as has been demonstrated by the year on year increased visitor numbers to the annual Balmoral Show, which this year was in range of 90,000 with over 88% of visitors travelling in excess of 10 miles.
“A recently commissioned independent survey completed by over 2000 exhibition and events attendees reinforced what visitors want from the Eikon; quality events, free on-site car parking, public transport options, modern facilities and friendly helpful staff. The Eikon will be the only exhibition and events venue in Northern Ireland that delivers on all counts.
“Event organisers require a flexible space therefore the Eikon has been designed for ease of use and includes permanent and innovative service installations to ensure that costs to organisers are known and minimised. In addition to this, organisers can confidently rely on the unrivalled expertise of our events and operations teams to deliver their event. With additional indoor events space programmed to open in 2016, event organisers can look forward to growing their events over time at the Eikon.”
The impressive front facade, significant groundworks and innovative branding promise a new frontier of exhibition space in Northern Ireland. The Eikon’s flexible specification will provide organisers with an effective customised solution, for their specific requirements. Substantial investment will also be directed at electrical and mechanical installations as well as a cutting edge communications network. Features such as 360 degree accessibility with five vehicle load-in doors, designated exhibitor parking areas and free WI-FI will deliver an easier, efficient experience.
A unique feature of the venue is free on-site parking for in excess of 4000 vehicles which will entice the public and bolster footfall. Moreover premium on-site catering outlets will add to visitor experience. Transport initiatives are being progressed which will link public transport directly to the Eikon, an important infrastructure requirement and fantastic support to upcoming events.
Speaking on the successful introduction of Eikon to the exhibition market, Theresa continued: “The Venue is attracting more exhibition and events business each week, including live events, B2B, retail and corporate events. The Eikon’s versatile blank canvas spaces will be ideal for all organisers with the spirit to move forward and develop successful new ventures or expand existing exhibitions and events. We currently have a range of flexible business models in place to assist organisers who want to increase their portfolio of events. These models allow us to work with organisers towards a beneficial solution. I would encourage organisers planning to launch an exhibition or event in Northern Ireland to come and talk to us. We are happy to advise and help and we have a range of tailored event management packages suited to supporting clients launching new events.”
The venue will host the Irish Golf Expo on the 28th-29th November 2015. Stewart Kyle, Director of Hawkeye Media explained that a priority for their event “was a venue with central location and excellent accessibility to maximise footfall from across Ireland.” He continued that the Eikon “is the only venue in Northern Ireland which can provide the facilities to our specification all under one roof.”
