Omagh Mart hosts Springhill ewe sale

Omagh Mart will set the stage for the seventh annual Springhill Female sale on Friday, December 8.

Joining the Springhill flock this year will be guest consignments from the Milestonehill and Duvarren flocks. With a selection of in-lamb stock ewes and gimmers as well as empty ewe lambs there will be lots to catch every discerning eye.

Catalogued in the Springhill pens are some fantastic ewes and gimmers in-lamb to the stock ram Bluehill Yogi as well as junior rams Ballynahone Aftershock, Derrylahan Alpha Male and the homebred Springhill Attraction. Bluehill Yogi having secured the first place Shearling ram position at Balmoral, Armagh, Omagh, Limavady and Antrim Shows in 2017 went on the take Male Champion at Balmoral, Overall Texel Champion at Omagh and Overall Reserve Champion at Limavady. He is also sire to a number of the ewe lambs entered for the sale.

Ballynahone Aftershock was purchased in Lanark. Noted as a stretchy lamb with good skin and back end, his E.T. sisters stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the ewe lamb class at Antrim Show 2017. Derrylahan Alpha Male took the 1st Prize Junior ram title at the All-Ireland Show in 2017. He is sired by Knock Yazoo and was purchased privately from breeders D&E McManamon, Newport, Co Mayo.

Finally, Springhill Attraction completes the service sires for the Springhill flock. He is a much admired homebred lamb from an Oberstown gimmer who also made his mark on the show circuit, taking the red rosette at both Omagh and Enniskillen shows in the ram lamb class.

All lots catalogued from the Springhill flock come from lines proven for their depth of character and longevity.

Milestone offer a selection of gimmers in-lamb to the tried and tested Clantibuies Yosemite Sam, a Glenside Valhalla son purchased at Lanark in 2016 for his correctness, skin and carcase, and Plasucha All Rounder – purchased jointly with the Curley flock at Lanark in 2017 he is a strong lamb with a terrific top line and smart head.

Milestonehill gimmers have been chosen from some of the best families within the flock.

The Duvarren flock returns to the sale this year with a dozen entries – mainly gimmers these ewes come in-lamb to Duvarren Whizz-Kid, top priced shearling at the NI Premier sale 2016 in which a share was retained having bred a batch of super ram lambs in his first season; Blackstown Yule, 1st placed shearling Ram at Castlewellan Show 2017, the exciting new stock ram; Springhill Wrangler a breeder of strong powerful shearlings he also sires some of the gimmers entered; and Templepark Yo-Yo, full brother to the 1st prize ram lamb at Balmoral 2016 he was purchased for his extreme length, level top line and bright outlook.

Duvarren have had a successful year at the shows and sales with consistently above average prices. They offer a number of strong gimmers naturally reared with no meal fed to them as lambs or over the summer period.

The seventh Springhill Female sale catalogue comes laden with well- bred females in-lamb to some exciting new stock rams as well as those with a proven track record, culminating in a selection of Springhill ewe lambs. The sale commences at 7pm and once again provides a choice of ewes or lambs to suit all.
