Outstanding entry of quality stock at Rathfriland

An outstanding entry of quality stock on Friday saw 75 weanlings easily cross the £2.00 per kilo mark to 243 pence for a 206k Lim heifer at £500 from the Maze Lisburn.

A Warrenpoint farmer sold 17 Ch (9 bulls and 8 heifers) to a top of 236 pence for 350k at £825 and 384k at £900 or 234.4 pence. A Co Antrim farmer sold 2 206k saler heifers at £480 each or 233p/k. Some excellent bullocks in the entry to a top of £945 for a 508k lot from Leitrim. A 508k lot from Dromore sold at £920. Severel other bullocks sold at £900 each. A big entry of fat cows cleared up to £995 for a 724k Ch from Ballinran. Several cows sold at over £1.00 per kilo. A strong entry of dropped calves cleared up to £375 for a Lim bull from Seafin. A Mayobridge farmer sold a Lim heifer calf at £340.

An outstanding entry of quality stock on Tuesday evening saw a top for hoggets of £91 paid to a Castlewellan farmer for 27.5k. A Loughbrickland farmer sold 56 hoggets 28k at £90.50 with a South Armagh farmer selling 40 hoggets 26.5k at £90 each. Hillsborough farmer: 28k at £89.50. Banbridge farmer: 29k at £89.50. Farmers from Donacloney, Newtownhamilton, Ballynahinch and Ballykindlar all sold hoggets at £89.50 for 25k. A Downpatrick farmer sold 40 hoggets 25.5k at £88.50. Light hoggets averaged 367p/k for 18k. The 23k lots averaged 355p/k and 600 heavy hoggets over 26k averaged 343p/k. In all 1145 hoggets averaged 353p/k.
