Crawfords of Maghera is an award-winning department store, now in its fourth generation of family operation on Maghera’s Main Street.
The whole store team at Crawfords strive to exceed customer’s expectations in terms of quality, service, range and value in order to achieve their lifetime loyalty. Assisting in this, this year, is Northway, the producer organisation.
Based in Blackwatertown, Northway is delighted to be supplying the fresh produce department at Crawfords with summer-long deliveries of fresh and sweet Northway Grown strawberries – all of which will have been grown and picked at the point of perfection, right here in Northern Ireland.
Northway represent six independent, family farm strawberry producers and for two years now have been working with them to ensure that the local strawberry season, which runs from May until September is maximised.
Together, Northway strawberry growers produce and harvest a steady crop of strawberries that ensures that retailers such as Crawfords can rely on Northway to deliver local strawberries throughout the local season.
Speaking on the collaborative approach adopted by Northway members, Elaine Shaw of Northway said: “Our collaborative production provides a stable, secure supply of quality and flavoursome NI strawberries. With the support of retailers like Crawfords, Northway can ensure that the strawberries you buy this summer will be picked here not shipped here.
“Reliable production of a top quality product with strong, local provenance is one of Northway’s main goals. The historical lack of supply chain has meant that too many of our NI retailers have been dependant on strawberries grown oversees and unfortunately there may have been a flavour price to pay.
“By working together local farmers have the opportunity to focus on planned production, which leads to increased flavour and quality that allows Northway to offer our retailer suppliers like Crawfords a more accessible, regular and reliable supply of fresh local produce.”
The efforts made by Northway within the strawberry growing sector of Northern Ireland have been noticed and noted by their valued and appreciated retail suppliers who know that their customers can spot, taste and smell the difference between a freshly harvested local strawberry and a product that has been grown abroad and shipped to Northern Ireland.
Speaking on stocking Northway for the fist time this season Jonathan Crawford, managing director of Crawfords, said: “There is an unrivalled difference between locally produced fruit and vegetables and imports and it is our commitment to supply our customers with the best of local. We have every confidence that Northway and Crawfords will represent a perfect partnership this strawberry season as their commitment to quality and service mirrors our own and as a result we are delighted to now be able to offer our customers daily, fresh and sweet Northway Grown Strawberries that have been picked here and not shipped here this season.”
In addition to this, all Northway Grown produce is Red Tractor Quality Assured, packed and distributed from a Northern Ireland accredited facility. As a result of these developments by Northway and its members, Northway Grown Strawberries will be in a store near you this summer – just look out for the logo or Northway Grown on Facebook for a full listing of all of those retailers that are supporting Northway support local this season.
