Police mount cross border operation on rural crime

Police have made one arrest following an operation to target cross border rural crime.

Inspector Keith Jamieson said the operation, which took place on Monday (November 16th) in the South Tyrone area, was co-ordinated with colleagues from An Garda Síochána, Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM), DARD and HMRC.

One man was arrested for possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and has been released pending report.

A number of properties were searched in Co Monaghan and Co Tyrone.

A quantity of suspected smuggled diesel was uncovered and it is understood that documentation and other items were seized by DARD.
