Poorer trade for hoggets at Markethill

An entry of 1260 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday returned a very poor trade for hoggets with prices back approx £20 per head in two weeks.

Heavy hoggets sold to 300p per kilo for 24 kilos @ £72 each. Main demand sold from 270p to 290p per kilo. Overweight pens sold from £72 to £76.50 each.

Middleweight hoggets sold to 290p per kilo for 23 kilos at £67 each.

Spring lambs sold to £81 each with others from £74 to £79.50 each and up to 354p per kilo for 22.5 kilos at £79.50.

Cull ewe trade was also easier but prices were still good with 1st quality ewes selling from £80 to £110 each.

A full yard of ewes and lambs sold in a good demand. Doubles sold to £218 each with several more from £160 to £208 each. Singles sold to £200 each. Main demand sold from £130 to £178 each.
