Presentation time for West Belfast

West Belfast HPS held their annual dinner and awards presentation recently in their own clubrooms.

As usual ‘A Night In The West’ is a top night out and this year was no exception and a credit going to Stocky and the team.

Chief guests were Mr and Mrs Joe Brown, Lurgan. Joe presented the seasons award winners ably assisted by Stocky and Mr Bill Savage.

Top three lofts this season were 1st Stockman and Robinson, 2nd Mr Alan Freeburn, 3rd McAuley, Kells, Gibson and Tosh.

Average winners - O/B Inland averages: Alan Freeburn; O/B Channel: Stockman and Robinson; Y/B Average: Brian Smyth; Combined Averages: Stockman and Robinson.

In the coming weeks, this season’s NIPA Yearling Cocks National winners: D and J Campbell, Eastway, will offer to the fancy a top selection of their multi award winning family. Remember, they also topped the NIPA from Talbenny this season.

Davy has not been in the best of form in recent months and must drastically reduce his stock, due to health reasons.

A fantastic draft of top winning bloodlines, winning at the highest level of competition, will be on offer. More information in next week’s issue.


This year the above clubs are having a select online auction of 2018 youngsters, kindly gifted to the clubs, prior to their annual presentation night on Friday 17th November.

The highest price online will be the opening bid on the night of the presentation. All lots on offer can be viewed by logging on to : A top selection on offer by the clubs leading winners. All lots will be listed by Friday 10th November and the bidding will close at midnight on Thursday 16th November.


Keep Them Healthy, Ask the Expert, Fundraising/charity night is to be held on Thursday 23rd November at Larne and Dist HPS, from 8pm, with supper served uring the evening. Admission by ticket priced at £10.

There will also be a star studded auction of some of the finest winning bloodlines gifted by top racing/breeding lofts. Only a small select draft on offer. All birds will be listed on the Pigeon Craic website and all proceeds will be going to charity.

Mr Armand Scheers is back once again to offer his professional advice on how to keep your pigeons healthy during the moulting, breeding and racing seasons. His expertise is greatly appreciated within the pigeon fraternity and we are fortunate in acquiring Mr Scheers for this event. The Larne and Dist HPS held a very successful Pigeon Moot recently in their own clubrooms with the world famous Jos Thone as the star guest. One of the main organisers, Mr Rab Mills, would like to thank Jos Thone, John Wheatcroft, Wesley Sawyers, the members of Larne and Dist who helped in any way, Ian Moxham, H Beattie and Son, Beyers Corn plus all the fanciers who attended the successful event.


Allan McDonald is regarded as one of the very best racing lofts in Ireland. A former treasurer of the INFC for many many years and a qualified accountant by profession has made Allan the meticulously astute fancier that he is. Over many years racing round about and natural Allan has assembled a team of winners second to none. He is a former winner of

1st Open INFC Kings Cup from Rennes and is the present record holder for French Diploma when 1st Open Kings Cup and 5th Open NIPA Dinard, a record held for 29 years. The loft has also been 4th and 5th Open in the Kings Cup, 2nd Open in the Yearling National and 3rd Open in both the Talbenny and Penzance Young Bird Nationals. In 2014 the loft won 1st Open in the Penzance Classic with 2397 birds competing and 1st Open Penzance with 4967 birds competing with ‘Classic 3-57’. Won the RPRA Irish Region

250-450 mileage award. The 2017 season was an extremely difficult one and Allan won an outstanding 1st Section, 4th Open St Malo with ‘Super Ryan’ with only 10 birds home in three days. Numerous Cross Channel, old bird and Combined Average wins in club including 2016 and 2017. The bloodlines mainly responsible for theses excellent pigeons are Tom Marshall – De Baere, Alfons Hendrickx and Son, Corneel Bertels – Allan’s No 1 pair have bred 10 prizewinners including 4th Open Penzance Classic. Also two young birds same way have bred won two Breeder Buyer Races. Smet Van Winckel and choice introductions from like minded top national lofts.

A small number of birds given to friends have bred winners for R Adamson, R and C McVeigh, G O’Dowd, B Curley, R Mulligan, G Gormley, Hagan and Rowney, J McCullough, T Ford, W Cooke. This year alone B Curley was 1st and 3rd Open 5 bird Fermoy, and the Open Winner was 2nd Open in Skibbereen in 2016. Hagan and Rowney had the loan of ‘Clan Princess’ the 3rd Open winner from Talbenny and she is Dam and Grandam to over 20 prize winners for them including 3rd and 4th Open in the Fermoy on 2nd September 2017. She has also bred 21 Section and 15 Open prize winners. In the first Fermoy on 19th August 2017 the partners took the first six places in the club and five of these birds were grand children of this super breeder. A selection of 2017 young birds will be in the sale directly from ‘Classic 3-57’ ‘Super Ryan’, ‘Clan Princess’, ‘Red 76’, Grandsire of ‘Super Ryan’. ‘Emma’s Boy’ Grandsire of ‘Classic 3 – 57’ and ‘Miss Delaney’ dam of ‘Classic 3 - 57’.

It has been just announced that Hagan and Rowney have won the champion young bird for Section E, this is a grandaughter of ‘Princess’.

Regrettably Allan has now found himself over stocked and being unable to give them the best attention has instructed Wesley Sawyers to conduct a reduction sale in Banbridge on Thursday evening 9th November 2017 commencing 8pm.
