An entry of 1620 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 1st April sold in a quieter trade for hoggets. Cull ewe trade remained very strong.
Heavy hoggets sold to £95 each with several pens from £88 to £94 each. Top rate of 361p per kilo was paid for 24 kilos @ £86.50 each. In all, 640 heavy hoggets averaged 26.5 kilos @ £88.20 each (333p)
Middleweight hoggets sold to 368p per kilo for 23 kilos @ £84.50 each. All suitable pens sold from 340p to 364p per kilo.
Good quality spring lambs sold from £90 to £99 each paid for 22 kilos (450p)
The 250 cull ewes sold in an excellent demand to a top of £120 each. All fleshed ewes sold from £88 to £114 each. Plainer ewes sold from £60 to £80 each.
A full yard of ewes & lambs sold readily with doubles to £250 each. Several more sold from £180 to £230 each. Singles sold to £180 each with others from £140 to £175 each.
