The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has published the second Annual Progress Report on the Rural White Paper Action Plan.
The Annual Progress Report 2014 provides an update on progress by all government departments in implementing their commitments in the Rural White Paper Action Plan during the period up to 30 June 2014.
Following publication of the Annual Progress Report 2014, Minister Michelle O’Neill said: “I welcome the fact that good progress continues to be made by departments in implementing the actions contained in the Rural White Paper Action Plan during its second year of operation.
“The Action Plan includes commitments on a wide range of rural issues across all government departments and I welcome my Executive colleagues continued support in delivering on these commitments.”
Highlighting some of the work that has been undertaken to improve services in rural areas the Minister said: “Rural communities have benefited from partnership working between government departments, statutory and voluntary agencies and I have seen how this approach makes a difference on the ground.
“My own Department has been working with other statutory organisations on a range of rural issues including fuel poverty, rural transport, rural libraries, the Farm Family Health Checks and MARA initiatives. I recognise the impact these interventions can make on tackling poverty and social isolation in rural areas and on improving the wellbeing of rural dwellers.”
